Old Fashioned Snickerdoodles   

1-1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda

4tsp. sugar
4tsp. ground cinnamon

Cream butter and sugar.  Beat in vanilla and eggs. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, baking soda and cream of tartar.  Stir into butter mixture.  Shape dough in 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and cinnamon mixture, and place on greased cookie sheet5 and bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.  

 

 

 

Chocolate cookies   6 dozen

1/2 cup shortening
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs, unbeaten
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
confectioners sugar
Melt shortening and chocolate; add sugar and vanilla; mix well.  Add eggs, singly, beating after each.
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.  Add to chocolate mixture with nuts; mix well.

Chill dough several hours.

Form into small balls; roll in confectioners sugar.  Bake in moderate oven (350) 12 to 15 minutes.


 

Chocolate peanut clusters    3 dozen
1/3 cup flour
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2 (1oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted.
2 tsp. corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cup shelled peanuts

 

Sift flour, sugar and salt into bowl.  Add shortening, egg, chocolate, corn syrup and vanilla; mix well. Add nuts.

Drop teaspoonfuls of dough 1" apart, on greased baking sheet.  Bake in moderate oven (350) 8 minutes.

Let cool before moving...they are delicate.
